FAQ

What is running gait?

Your running gait is how your body works together as it moves throughout the gait cycle. This graphic illustrates the running gait cycle.

I am a very competitive runner; how can this help me?

Absolutely! Targeting specific areas to work on will translate to bigger gains in the ability to perform in and adapt from training. Not only does a biomechanically sound runner likely sustain less injuries, they are also more likely to recover from training faster, thus making them able to sustain a higher training load, whether that be intensity and/or volume.

I am a recreational runner is this something I should do?

Absolutely! This test is appropriate for runners of all levels. Recreational runners are still taking approximately 2000 foot contacts per mile- this can take a toll on the body if constant errors are being made.

Can I really change mechanical form issues when I have been running like this for years?

With hard work and dedication, yes, it is possible. It will take some people longer than others to correct form issues, and some form mechanics are easier than others to correct.

Why is it helpful?

Collecting footage of a runner’s form makes it possible to identify areas of the body that are taking additional stress, inefficient form, inadequate strength, and over or underutilization of muscles. In correcting these errors, it is possible to reduce the likelihood of injuries, improve efficiency, and maximize performance.

Why can’t I just go to a running shoe store and get my gait analyzed?

A gait analysis you would have done at a running shoe store is done for the purpose of selling you a shoe. The shoe store will not analyze your biomechanics and work with you on how to be a more efficient runner.
